The Asphalt Jungle

The Asphalt Jungle was an ok movie for me.  I really do not care for gangster movies of the 50.  I thought the direction of Huston was good, and I liked the role that Monroe played.  I thought the cast and crew did a great job.  I am a big wardrobe buff so I did like the outfits and costumes the actors were wearing.

  1. The Asphalt Jungle showed the way shadows can be used to set the scene. The city is shown in shadows which matches the dark side of characters that the film exposes. After driving through the night, the final scene is in a sunny field with horses. Dix collapses in the field which may be the only way that could ever allow him to leave the city and the life of crime. The film shows the dark side of the city and of humanity.

    1. I was glad that Dix made it back to his beloved family farm in Kentucky. He really wanted to get back there and get out of the life of crime. And he made it. It was also sad to me to see the horses sniffing around him as he died. Full circle, I guess.

  2. The Asphalt Jungle had a wonderful story about a great caper gone wrong. This Crime - Film-Noir -Drama file was made in May 1950 in American. A major heist goes off as planned, until bad luck and double crosses cause everything to unravel. Director, John Huston did a fabulous job the many different shots being done at all different level of angles and use close up basement and room to make it feel like the underground dirty mobsters world that depicted. Every even the good guys like cop and lawyers were understand and up to their neck in trouble with the law. Agreed was the overall motive in the movie. Except the hooligan, called Dick who still broke the law and killed someone, he only motive was go home and buy back is childhood home so, he could get out of the mob and gambling.
