Written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan, Manchester by the
Sea is the story of Lee Chandler, played by Case Affleck.
After the death of
his older brother, Lee becomes the guardian of his nephew Patrick, played by
Lucas Hedges. Lee leaves his janitor job and goes back to Manchester-by-the-Sea
to care for the fifteen year-old.
Lee has to face his ex-wife Randi, played by Michelle
Williams, and his old community. Lee and Patrick struggle to adjust.
Manchester by the
Sea is a film that speaks of grief. It ultimately invites the question: how on earth would we be able to carry
on after an event so tragically full of loss and guilt.
