Shane

I did not find this to be the typical western. The homesteaders wanted to keep their land and Ryker wanted to have all the land to run the cattle. The people in the small town were against guns, for the most part. Shane comes along to work for Joe, but seems way to familiar with Joe's wife Marian. Both Marian and Shane seem too comfortable with one another. The secenery was nice, bit a little to drawn out in some parts.

  1. The homesteaders were referred to as Sodbusters because they came out to plow the rocky terrain & claimed land given to them by the government if they would work the land for 5 years or more. The people who originally settled the land like "Ryker" hated the migrant people. This happened a lot in the times of the old west. People who had settled the land originally, made life very difficult for these migrant people. They looked at these people as intruders looking to leech off the land for what it was worth and would do anything to run them off, regardless of the law. In most cases history will show it ended with the Migrants being unlawfully burned-out, run-off and alot of time shot & killed.

I also see the familiarity between Shane and Marian..I wasn't sure what was going on there between those two.??

  2. I was definitely not expecting a western about a family of farmers, yet there was the basic element of what westerns have. In my opinion, the guns, the bad guys, and the gun slinging cowboy Shane was about the best part of the film. I agree that some scenes were drawn out too long, yet there must have been a reason for that. Marian and Shane had something going on, but one may never know for sure.
