Extra Credit

Extra Credit: Watch Touch of Evil and write analysis on Orson Welles.
Touch of Evil is a great American film thriller, dark mystery, and cult classic.  Orson Welles fifth Hollywood film and it was his last American film.  He was supposedly only supposed to be acting in this film and not directing or writing.  Although he ended up starring in the film which made it that much better.  Filming was portrayed really well in this film.  After the production the studio re edited the film, re shot scenes and shot new exposition scenes to clarify the plot.  Welles wrote a 58 page memo outlining suggestions and objections, stating that the film was no longer his version and it was the studios.  You were able to tell that the style seemed to reflect that of Orson Welles but as he stated that some was not his I would have to agree that you could tell.  As with many of his films, Orson Welles had to battle the studio to realize his artistic vision.  Usually it was unsuccessful for him like it was here.  The film was released that was not satisfactory to Welles.  Which has unfortunately resulted in various versions of Touch of Evil appearing throughout the years.  Although it didn’t go according to his plan I believe Orson Welles did a fine job acting in this movie and having the ability to hide his frustration and still go on is only seen in elite directors and actors.
